PostHeaderIcon How to Plan a Golf Vacation in California

Decide on a budget for your golf vacation. Your costs may include airfare, rental cars, lodging, meals, green fees, cart rentals and non-golfing entertainment. Resort or golf vacation package deals that include lodging and green fees often will save you money.

Gather information on the resorts and courses in the area of California you want to visit. The California Travel and Tourism Commission, Northern California Golf Association and Southern California Golf Association (see Who Can Help below) can provide information on golf courses and resorts in California.

Take note of any tournaments or special events in the area at the same time as your vacation.  Plan your travel dates accordingly, as these activities may prevent you from booking at your preferred hotel or playing your chosen courses.

Consider California’s weather. Although much of California is known for year-round mild weather, winter is the rainy season. Spring and fall are considered the best times of year to visit California for a golf vacation.

Evaluate the needs of your group. Family groups with children need to be near attractions other than golf courses. Consider the skill levels of the golfers to ensure that everyone can have a good time on the courses chosen.

Contact each resort and golf course you are interested in, or use a travel agent to get information and make reservations. Some package deals restrict dates and tee times. You will have more flexibility booking lodging and tee times yourself, but you will save money by purchasing a package deal.

Make all reservations, including tee times, well in advance of your vacation dates. Review all reservations and any restrictions or conditions prior to your trip.

An important part of saving money while planning a vacation is flexibility.
Deciding on when to go is an important factor in your vacation but having the flexibility to pack your things and go in a weeks notice will save you countless dollars.

When planning a vacation check out vacations sites. These sites offer vacation packages which include airfare, hotel, and even rental cars if you wish. The vacation packages will save you a lot of money by allowing the travel site to compete for the lowest price.

Any avid traveler will tell you that knowing when to travel is more important than the destination. Being a strategic planner will save you tons of money. If you travel during your destinations off season you will likely find deep discounts because of the vast availability. You may not get to experience the seasonal attraction but being able to skip out on the tourist crowds will surely make up for that.

Being diligent and checking the travel every day or even every hour will help you spot and capitalize on any last minute deals. Often times the airlines and hotels will have last minute openings or do not meet their quota and will put out very low prices in order to fill their occupancy.

Do your homework! Before going to your vacation destination look up exactly where you want to eat and what you want to do. That does not mean you have to abide by a strict schedule but by doing your research you can avoid getting stuck dishing out your hard earned dollars at tourist traps.
