Wonderful guide February 16, 2008 J. M. Wall (Minnesota) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The title says it all. A great way to see and do things you'd want to do and see if you lived there. Also full of helpful hints regarding traffic.
Best LA book I've read! April 6, 2008 Melinda Edwards (Perth, Western Australia Australia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have read Lonely Planet books on Los Angeles, and these are great if you are a tourist and interested just in seeing the major tourist sites. But this book gives relevant information for familiarising yourself with LA generally and the 50+ neighborhoods that make it up. The layout is really user friendly and the information really relevant for a longer stay or (particularly) for a person moving to the city.
Great book for the newbie (or yes, TOURIST!)! January 26, 2009 Laura Hayes (Georgia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
NFT Los Angeles 2008 is a greatly informative book for the new LA resident or, yes, even the tourist! I purchased it before a vacation to LA in August and really used it a lot. The maps cover a nice area and are quite a bit more condensed than say, the Thomas Guide, but were still very useful. It covers every area in LA, from South Central to the beaches to Glendale, so it was nice to have around. It is also FULL of other information, such as special sections just for Beaches, Parks and Hiking, the Studios, etc. that are FULL of useful info (parking, admission, directions, reviews, etc.). I gave to my friend (who lives in LA) when I left and definitely plan to buy the updated version when we move there next year.
Don't leave home without it! April 9, 2008 N. Neff (Los Angeles, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Everytime I leave my NFTO book behind I always regret it. Whether it is to find the nearest bank ATM or because I am too busy playing tourist in LA and get lost, I miss having it near me on the front seat of my car. The handy phone numbers and venue information in the back are great and the little elastic band helps you find your place so you can read in traffic!
Even for tourists September 24, 2008 Doc Schreiber (West Coast) As the title implies, this book has probably more value for L.A. residents or those spending many days a year in L.A. Very helpful and resourceful. In some ways like miniature Yellow Pages and more. An essential supplement to any other guide. Worth having even if you are a tourist.
The only complaint? It's kinda large to carry around (but at least not too thick).
