Monthly feature will highlight the most outrageous lawsuits
being filed in our judicial system

(Los Angeles) In an attempt to better inform the public of how out of control our judicial system has become, Los Angeles Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) will be highlighting the most outrageous lawsuits being filed across the nation in its “Loony Lawsuit of the Month.”

The program will feature a new lawsuit each month and continue the tradition set with past Loony Lawsuit classics, such as:

  • The woman from Grand Haven, Michigan who filed a lawsuit for more than $25,000 after she was injured by a firecracker she took from a condominium that she had cleaned. While dining later with friends at a restaurant, the woman lit the firecracker claiming that she mistakenly thought it was a decorative candle.

  • The man who tripped and fell over decorative rocks along a driveway where the basketball net was located during a pickup basketball game. He then sued the homeowner, even thought his friend had pointed out the rocks to him and they were in plain view.

“Our courts and our government have been taken over by personal injury lawyers and people who would rather sue than take responsibility for their own actions,” stated Linda Okun, Executive Director. “Our civil justice system is supposed to provide justice for all. Instead it has become a playground for those who would use the system to get rich at public expense, while making a mockery of American justice. It’s loony!”

As a prelude of Loony Lawsuits to come, just look at the case of one Cleveland man, who decided to blame NBC for his squeamish stomach.

As widely reported by the Associate Press on January 7th 2005, this person has sued NBC for $2.5 million, saying he could not stomach what he saw. Austin Aitken claims that NBC’s reality show Fear Factor was so disgusting that it made him nauseas and dizzy causing him injury when he hit his head.

Aitken, a 44 year old paralegal, filed a handwritten four-page lawsuit in federal court. He told reporters the show caused his blood pressure to rise so high that he became dizzy and light-headed, and when he ran away to his room, he bumped his head into the doorway.
