Your article "Bill Targets Handling of Mold Claims" shows exactly how damaging mold lawsuits are to our communities. The paranoia over mold has had a ripple effect causing sky-high insurance premiums, scarcity of affordable homes and disappearing homeowner policies. Texas has seen a mass exodus of insurers in their state and Jerry Davis of the Personal Insurance Federation of California is right when he asked, "Do we want that to happen in California?" No, we certainly do not.

Californians need to understand that the hype surrounding the supposed mold scare is just another lucrative jackpot for personal injury lawyers; it's the next hot spot of paranoia-inspired litigation. Just look to Texas to see the damage that this type of litigation is causing and consider it a forewarning of things to come if California doesn't curb the mold rush.

We all must take into consideration that the most harmful effects of this new panic litigation is what it is doing to our affordable housing market, insurance premiums and available homeowner policies. And while our communities are suffering from these effects, another community is profiting: the personal injury lawyer community.
