.Los Angeles..As we enter the last week of the campaign, that
sound you hear is not Angel fans with thunder sticks, it is the
"ca-ching" of trial lawyer money being poured into state and legislative
campaigns throughout the state, according to Los Angeles Citizens
Against Lawsuit Abuse.
Citing reports compiled from the Civil Justice
Association of California, CALA Executive Director Michael Vallante
noted that the total of trial lawyer money into campaign had already
passed eight million dollars and was growing with each passing
day.
"They are masters of giving money to tilt the
field against consumers, taxpayers, and common sense. Trial lawyers
give as a group, they give as individuals, they give as a PAC,
and they give through back-door organizations designed to circumvent
campaign finance laws. How ironic that those who are supposed
to protect the integrity of the spirit and letter of the law,
scoff at it so freely," stated Vallante.
"Trial lawyers have a simple goal, to make the
civil justice their playground for profit at the expense of consumers,
taxpayers and common sense. With their money they are trying to
buy the ability to kill civil justice reforms, and expand a litigious
society," concluded Vallante.
