"In their ongoing attempts to take more money
from injured victims pockets, California's personal injury lawyers,
and their favorite ally Jamie Court, are waging a new war against
the landmark Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act of 1975 (MICRA).
"MICRA was enacted to resolve a crisis in healthcare
not unlike what several states across the U.S. are now facing.
Thanks to MICRA, California's doctors are staying put, while their
colleagues in other states are closing their doors due to excessive
lawsuits and awards. Rather than try to destroy MICRA, Court and
his lawyer benefactors should consider that keeping doctors in
California and keeping health care affordable are good for all
Californians.
"MICRA protects consumers access to, and cost
of health care by providing some protections for health care providers
against frivolous lawsuits. It also limits what personal injury
lawyers can take from injured victims as fees, meaning more money
stays in victims pockets."
