A bagel ruined their marriage. That's what a
couple is claiming in yet another lawsuit against McDonald's restaurant.
According to a Reuters story, John and Cecelia
O'Hare of Panama City Beach have sued McDonald's claiming an improperly
prepared bagel damaged Mr. O'Hare's teeth and their marriage.
Mrs. O'Hare claims she "lost the care, comfort, consortium and
society of her husband" as a result of his injuries.
"It's astounding what plaintiffs and their lawyers
will claim in order to try and win a huge cash settlement," said
Michael Vallante, executive director of Los Angeles Citizens Against
Lawsuit Abuse (CALA).
Earlier this year, a claim was filed against
McDonald's for allegedly causing the plaintiff's obesity. The
complaint was eventually dismissed.
"The fact that this absurd lawsuit was even
allowed to go to court shows how our civil justice system is in
desperate need of an overhaul. Until that happens, frivolous lawsuits
will continue to abound, meaning clogged courts and delayed justice,
not to mention taxpayer and consumer costs," said Vallante.
